Cambodia - 35 days 4 Countries with only USD 750, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos and Thailand

From 7th January I booked a promotion ticket from Airasia cost me RM67 (1 way) to Cambodia - Siam Reap

Tips? information?

-This is my first solo backpacker trip at first little scare, but after awhile you will start enjoy
-4 countries, which I love the most? Vietnam and Laos!
-Most of the transportation from one place to another place is by BUS
-Each of the dormitory provided locker, but some doesn't provide lock. So must bring lock along
-Remember to bring Sunblock and lotion to prevent dry skin
-In this trip, I bring along my smartphone and download offline map Osmand maps from Google market. Which helps me a lot and the whole trip I didn't buy any data SIM card. It only required turn on the GPS on your phone and can use the offline map, but before use download the countries map first.
-Most of the hostel they have sell bus ticket and tour.
-Before starting my journey I purchase travel insurance from AXA Affin General Insurance cost mr RM108 for 40 days.
-Most of the countries I travel accept USD. Please bring spare USD to exchange. They don't accept MYR. For contingencies purpose.
-Activate the oversea withdrawn ATM card or debit card through online.
-Cambodia mostly uses USD and you might get small change in RIEL
-Vietnam, mostly uses Vietnam Dong
-Vietnam withdrawn money from the ATM each withdrawn is 2,000,000 Dong
-Laos use Lao Kip
-Thailand use Baht (most of you know it)
-Mostly the transportation use is Bus. (If you seat the bus longer then 5 hours, please prepare/buy some food to store at your bag, if not they stop at some food stall sell food is so expensive)

What a boring place..I landed at Siam Reap and proceed to Hostel (Dormitory) which need to pay USD2 (outside of the airport) for the motor to fetch me to the hostel..

After I pay the ticket at counter USD2, I follow the the motor driver and the driver keep telling me that he have tuk-tuk ask me to pay extra USD2 to him for the tuk-tuk. After that, I told him that I don't have extra USD2, just use your motor and fetch me to the Hostel (obviously he want to earn the USD2). Moreover, after fetch me to the hostel and keep ask me tomorrow need tuk-tuk bring me around the temple (Angkor wat and etc) for 15USD. I told him NO NEED ...

Here is my hostel (dorm share with 6 people) USD5/day

Here the location of the Hostel - Garden Village Guest House - 13.358617, 103.853930

Stay at Siam Reap 3 days 2 nights

Here is the bed
Locker provided
View from outside of my room

After the day, I rent a bicycle cost me 1USD which is much cheaper compared to 15USD tuk-tuk (if share with 4 people it's worth). I woke up at 7am and start cycling around the temple and back to the hotel around 2pm (cycle 30km+-) which is very tiring and my butt pain. If you want the route you can pm me, I try to draw it for you. (quite a lot of people cycling too). You can't cycle in the temple, the bicycle need to park at outside the temple. Each of the bicycle you rent with own lock.

Here my route
from town to ticket station 3.5km
from ticket station to angkor wat 4km
from angkor wat to prasat prayon 3km
from prasat prayon to ta prohm 5km
from prasat prayon to ticket counter 10km
from ticket counter to town 3.5km
Total = 29km - 30km

Here's the information. You can purchase the entrance ticket at location google map - 13.387080, 103.864292

Here's the price list - 1 days 20USD, 3days 40USD and 7 days 60USD

For 1 day ticket is most of people queue for the ticket, but is very fast and efficient. 3 days & 7 days pass are most less people queue.

Most of the people I asked they bought 3 days ticket but at the end they just go 2 days and get boring. So I bought a 1 days pass and cycling around and able to visit 3 temples

The ticket have picture of you (taken on the spot)
 Angkor beer...must try...It's quite cheap
 Entrance of Angkor wat
Flower pond in Angkor Wat this is the place for Sunset but I did't wait for it

45 Degree staircase..If you afraid of height better don't go up

 Here is Prasat Bayon
 Someone riding elephant
Here is the famous "Tomb Rider movie" Ta Prohim

Some random view in the middle of cycling and resting

What I can say in Siem Reap is...
-Quite a boring place to me (I'm not really into the temple). For those Temple lover, you might need to buy 3 or 7 days pass since there have a lot of temples and I just go these 3 famous temples
-The food is quite expensive compared others Indochina counties (1USD the cheapest I can find)
-The taste of the food is not bad but, not good either
-Road condition is totally out of my mind
-First impression of Cambodia is spoiled by the tuk-tuk driver
-Currency used in Cambodia is USD (if you buy a big mineral water cost 0.75USD, they will give you change of 1000 Riel) which is so hard to do conversation in currency actually

Extra information:-
-The tuk-tuk driver will just stop you at the entrance of the temple, they won't show you around in the temple and explain to you. You will see a blue shirt / holding a flag people around, that is the tour guide.

Next location is Phnom Penh.

I bought the bus ticket from Hostel which cost me 6USD to Phnom Penh (6-7 hours drive). Free pick up from Hostel to the bus station. You don't expect to have a good highway like Malaysia PLUS highways. The road condition is totally insane, which not a road? sand road? it's bumpy like hell!

Note: Please buy some snacks or foods bring along in the bus journey. They will stop, but the foods is freaking expensive ( Meehon cost me 2USD)

Here the bus I sat. You can see the road condition and some of the road is even worst then the picture.

After reaching Phnom Penh, bus will stop you at The Central Market. Before I go to the next destination I will do some research on which backpacker hostel to stay and the reasonable price too. After reaching bus station, some of the people will approach you and ask you "where do you want to go" or "do you found any hotel yet". I just ignore them and walk away (I feel uneasy with these guys). After a while I found my backpacker name Nomad. It cost me 5.5USD per day.

*I don't recommend to stay at this backpacker. You know why? see below picture

This is the worst backpacker I ever stay. Look like jail

Before proceed to the dormitory. The owner show me this and ask me to be careful if walk around the city. If you bump into any of the scam, just ignore them and walk away.

4 famous scam in Cambodia

In the Capital of Cambodia is nothing much to do over here just the Killing field, S21-prison, Naga casino and Central market. I just walk around the city and on the day I bought the bus ticket to the Ho Chi Mint. The Bus ticket cost me 10USD and 7-8 hour journey.

From Phnom Penh to Ho Chi Minh road condition is much better and not the bumpy road. Once you get into the bus, you required to give the passport to bus steward. Once you reach the immigration of Vietnam, the bus steward will give to the immigration officer. Once your passport is done chopped your passport will hand back the passport to you. No worries. But it's a lot of people queuing in the immigration of Vietnam, so prepare to wait 30 minutes to 1 hour.

What I can say in Phnom Phen  is...
-Quite a boring place to me nothing much to do over there..I just transit 1 day over there

Extra information:-
-If you go to Naga Casino tuk-tuk will offer you 3USD, if midnight will cost 5USD
-Before you go to next country, please change the next country currency or else is troublesome.

Part 2 is about Vietnam!
